India Frames Circularity as Modern Renewal of Traditional Values
Bhupender Yadav said India has long followed ideas that are now called circularity.
These ideas include repairing things instead of replacing them and reusing items instead of throwing them away.
He said the goal is to waste as little value as possible.
India is building more recycling facilities and using new technologies.
A system called extended producer responsibility makes companies responsible for managing products after people finish using them.
More than 83,000 producers and 4,802 recyclers are registered in this system.
Yadav said circular living must begin with how people shop and behave at home, not only at recycling plants.
He made the remarks at the World Circular Economy Forum in Gandhinagar.
Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said circularity modernises Indian traditions of repair, reuse and resource conservation.
He said India is expanding recycling infrastructure, supporting new technologies and strengthening markets for recycled materials.
India’s extended producer responsibility framework has registered more than 83,000 producers and 4,802 recyclers.
Nearly 482.24 lakh metric tonnes of regulated waste have been processed, including over 422 lakh tonnes covered by EPR certificates.
The World Circular Economy Forum 2026 is being held in Gandhinagar from September 15 to 18.
