Dharavi Sector 6 Rehabilitation Advances As 61 Hutment Owners Vacate

A redevelopment project in Dharavi’s Sector 6 needs homes to be cleared before new rehabilitation buildings can be constructed.

There are 85 hutment owners in one area called Ganesh Nagar-Meghwadi.

So far, 61 have agreed to move out and signed rental agreements.

The other 24 families have until September 10 to finish the process.

Earlier, officials sent demolition notices because they said some people were blocking infrastructure work.

Four huts were later demolished with police help.

Families that move receive rent, moving costs and brokerage support.

Officials say cooperation will help construction begin sooner, while some residents had raised concerns about relocation.
