Kerala: Red Alert Issued for Three Districts as Floodwaters Recede

Heavy rain caused floods in Kerala, a state in India.

Water covered many homes and roads, so some people had to leave their houses.

They are staying in special shelters called relief camps.

More than 14,000 people are living in these camps right now.

The good news is that in some places, like Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Ernakulam, the water is starting to go away.

But in a low-lying area called Kuttanad, the water is still there, though it is slowly going down.

A weather group called the India Meteorological Department, or IMD, said even more very heavy rain is possible.

So they put out a red alert for three districts, their highest warning.

They also told people not to swim in rivers, visit waterfalls, or take selfies on bridges.

Schools in the flooded areas are closed so children stay safe.
