The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for seven Kerala districts on Monday.
Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur were forecast to receive very heavy rainfall.
The orange alert indicates isolated rainfall of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
A yellow alert was issued for seven other districts, with heavy rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm expected.
Authorities advised residents in landslide-, mudslide- and flash-flood-prone areas to move to safer locations when directed.
