Kerala is a place in India where it rains a lot during the monsoon season.

Right now, the rain is very heavy.

A weather group called the India Meteorological Department put out a big warning called a red alert.

The red alert means very heavy rain could fall in a short time.

Because of this, schools and colleges in eight districts are closed today.

Kids get to stay home so they stay safe from the rain and floods.

Some rivers have overflowed and flooded towns and fields.

The water has started going down in some places, like Kottayam and Pathanamthitta.

But in Kuttanad, the water is still there and going down slowly.

There is also a warning about big waves, called Kallakkadal, that could push seawater onto the land near the coast.
