India Exports 7,000 MT of Makhana to Over 20 Nations

India grows a special snack called makhana.

Last year, India sent more than seven thousand tonnes of makhana to over twenty other countries.

Most of this makhana, about eighty-five out of every hundred pieces, comes from a state called Bihar.

The government gave makhana its own special code in July to make it easier to trade.

A group called APEDA helped arrange the very first big boat shipment of a special kind of makhana called Mithila makhana.

The shipment went all the way from Bihar to Australia.

The makhana came from farmers in a place called Darbhanga district.

Because the farmers sold their makhana to other countries, they earned about eighteen per cent more money than usual.

This helps the farmers and makes Bihar's makhana famous around the world.
