PM Modi hails citizens' efforts on 80th Independence Day
India celebrated its 80th Independence Day.
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, spoke to the whole country from the historic Red Fort in New Delhi.
For the first time, the national song 'Vande Mataram' was sung during the celebration at the Red Fort.
He remembered the freedom fighters who helped India become independent.
He talked about how people all over India have worked hard in the last 12 years to make the country stronger.
He shared big numbers, like digital payments going up 100 times and mobile phone making going up 33 times.
He also said poorer families now get tap water, gas, toilets, and homes much faster than before.
He asked everyone to have big dreams so that India can become a developed nation by the year 2047.
He said 25 crore people, which is 250 million people, have come out of poverty.
He also told people hurt by floods and landslides that the whole country supports them.

'Vande Mataram' was rendered for the first time during the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, coinciding with the National Song's 150th anniversary.
Modi cited 12-year growth across sectors including defence production (nearly four-fold), mobile manufacturing (33-fold), and digital transactions (100-fold).
Modi set a national goal of becoming a developed nation ('Viksit Bharat') by 2047, when India completes 100 years of independence.
Modi said 25 crore citizens have emerged from poverty over the past 12 years and expressed solidarity with families affected by floods and landslides.
