Modi Hoists Flag at Red Fort on 80th Independence Day
India has a special day called Independence Day, when the country celebrates becoming free many years ago.
On this day, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, went to an old fort called the Red Fort in Delhi.
He raised the big national flag, and soldiers saluted him.
For the very first time ever, people sang the whole song called 'Vande Mataram'.
The Air Force even showered flower petals from the sky.
Then PM Modi gave a speech to the people.
He said that India is growing and developing a lot.
He said the country should make its own things, like computer chips, instead of depending on other countries.
He also said millions of people have come out of poverty.
He felt sad about a recent disaster in a place called Assam and said the whole country is with the people there.
PM Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort in Delhi to mark the 80th Independence Day.
For the first time in the country's history, the entire 'Vande Mataram' song was sung during the celebrations.
Modi said India has transformed from one of the five weak economies into a rising economy in 12 years.
He stressed self-reliance and announced that three chip makers have been set up, with more to come.
Modi said 250 million people have moved out of poverty and expressed solidarity with Assam after a recent tragedy.
