Modi's Health Reforms Benefit Millions in India

Over the past 12 years, the Indian healthcare sector has undergone significant changes under the Narendra Modi administration.

Key reforms have provided protection for low-income citizens, financial security for families, improved rural and urban accessibility, affordable medicines, digital health infrastructure, and expanded medical education.

These initiatives have directly improved living standards for millions.

The Ayushman Bharat PMJ has provided secondary and tertiary hospital treatment worth up to Rs 5 lakh annually to approximately 12.37 crore families, benefiting 55 crore individuals.

The Ayushman Arogya Mandir facilities have expanded primary healthcare access to village, ward, and basti levels with over 1.81 lakh centres nationwide.

The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana has provided generic medicines priced 50 to 80 per cent below branded alternatives, saving citizens nearly Rs 38,000 crore over 11 years.

Medical education has seen significant growth with medical colleges reaching 844 and MBBS seats growing to 1,39,489 nationwide.

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has created over 93.95 crore ABHA accounts and 105 crore linked digital health records.

Maternal and child health indicators have improved noticeably, with the maternal mortality ratio falling from 130 during 2014-16 to 93 during 2019-21, while the infant mortality rate declined from 39 in 2014 to 27 in 2021.
