Tourism Ministry's Netflix, YouTube partnerships can 'create wonders': Shekhawat
India has a ministry that looks after tourism, which means it helps people visit beautiful places in India.
The minister in charge, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, said the ministry works with companies like Netflix, YouTube, Google, and Air India.
He thinks these partnerships can 'create wonders' for showing India's places to the world.
Netflix has been making shows and movies in India for ten years.
In that time, it has filmed at more than 100 places across the country and made about 200 original shows.
Netflix's big boss, Ted Sarandos, came to India to talk with the minister.
They talked about how stories on TV and the internet can make people want to travel.
The ministry also launched a special section called 'As Seen on Netflix' on its Incredible India website.
That section helps people find real places that they saw in their favorite shows.
The deals are non-commercial, which means India does not pay these companies money, and both sides help each other.
Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said partnerships with Netflix, Google, YouTube, and Air India can 'create wonders' in promoting Indian tourist destinations.
Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos joined the minister for a fireside chat at an event marking Netflix's ten years in India at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in New Delhi.
The ministry launched an 'As Seen on Netflix' section on the 'Incredible India' portal under a non-commercial MoU signed with Netflix Entertainment Services India on World Tourism Day last year.
Netflix India has filmed original productions at over 100 locations across India and produced about 200 original productions over ten years, spending approximately two billion dollars on content.
The minister said the ministry's agreements with Netflix, IndiGo, Air India, YouTube, and Google are all non-commercial, with the government paying nothing to these entities.
