Indian Coast Guard to Hold NMSAR Meeting and SAREX-2026
The Indian Coast Guard plans to hold an important meeting about rescuing people at sea.
It will take place in Bhubaneswar.
The meeting will discuss how to respond to emergencies more quickly and work better with different agencies.
A large rescue exercise called SAREX-2026 is also planned.
It will practise what to do if a passenger aircraft has to land in the sea and a ship is involved.
Many ships, planes, helicopters, and support teams are scheduled to take part.
Observers from 30 countries are expected to watch.
The exercise is planned for October 2026 near Paradip.
The Indian Coast Guard will host the 24th National Maritime Search & Rescue Board Meeting in Bhubaneswar.
Director General Paramesh Sivamani will chair discussions on preparedness, distress alerts, technology, and inter-agency coordination.
Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth is scheduled to inaugurate SAREX-2026 on October 7, 2026; a search-and-rescue demonstration is planned off Paradip on October 8.
The exercise will deploy Coast Guard, Indian Air Force, Navy, civil and state assets, including ships, aircraft, and helicopters.
The simulated mass rescue includes an aircraft ditching at sea with 228 people aboard and an impact involving container vessel MV Zumba; 32 observers from 30 countries are expected.
