Vaishnaw reviews Yatri Suvidha Kendra progress at Anand Vihar, Udhna
A very crowded train station in New Delhi had a sad accident in February 2025 when 18 people lost their lives in a stampede.
After that, the government decided to build special waiting areas, called Yatri Suvidha Kendras, at train stations.
These areas give passengers a safe and comfortable place to wait before they go to the platforms.
The Railway Minister checked how the construction is going at two of these Kendras.
One is at Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi and the other is at Udhna Railway Station in Surat.
The Anand Vihar Kendra will hold about 4,000 people at first and 7,000 when it is finished.
The Udhna Kendra will be much bigger and can hold about 15,000 people.
The minister wants the work finished before the festival rush begins.
The stations will also get seating, water, toilets, screens, and security cameras to keep passengers safe.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the progress of Yatri Suvidha Kendras at Anand Vihar Terminal and Udhna Railway Station virtually from Rail Bhawan.
The permanent holding areas were ordered after 18 passengers were killed in a stampede at New Delhi railway station on February 15, 2025.
The New Delhi railway station holding area is ready and operational, while work at Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad, Varanasi and Ayodhya is at different stages.
The Anand Vihar Kendra will accommodate about 4,000 passengers in Phase-I and around 7,000 after Phase-II completion.
The Udhna Kendra is planned to accommodate about 15,000 passengers, and 55 more stations are to get permanent holding areas.
