Uttar Pradesh food safety drive seizes adulterated materials
Officials in Uttar Pradesh inspected food businesses before the Raksha Bandhan festival.
They were looking for food that might be unsafe or mixed with unwanted substances.
Teams collected 182 samples and registered 18 police cases.
They seized large amounts of food and materials suspected of being used for adulteration.
Officials also destroyed food stored in unhygienic conditions or considered unsafe.
In Sambhal, about 100 quintals of suspected fake ghee was seized and the premises was sealed.
In Lucknow, a food establishment was closed after contaminated food was found.
The government said the drive was meant to protect people buying festival foods such as sweets, khoya, paneer, milk and ghee.
Uttar Pradesh registered 18 FIRs during a food-safety drive ahead of Raksha Bandhan.
Authorities seized more than 13,440 kilograms and 14,561 litres of food material.
The campaign collected 182 samples and destroyed 18,607 kilograms and 7,630 litres of material.
In Sambhal, officials seized about 100 quintals of suspected fake ghee and sealed the premises.
The government said the operation sought to keep unsafe sweets, khoya, paneer, milk and ghee from consumers.
