MP Food Safety Teams Seize Ghee Stock Worth Lakhs

In India, there are food safety inspectors who check that the food people buy is safe and real.

In the state of Madhya Pradesh, they visited several shops that sell ghee, a kind of butter used in cooking.

They wanted to make sure the ghee was not fake or mixed with other things.

In Neemuch, the inspectors took away ghee worth more than two lakh rupees from a shop.

In Petlawad, they checked many stores and took away more than 46 litres of ghee.

In Khandwa, they took away 153 litres of ghee that was being sold at a very low price.

Some people thought the low price might mean the ghee was not real, but the inspectors said a low price alone does not mean it is fake.

Before making any decisions, they took small samples and sent them to a laboratory for testing.

The shops cannot sell the ghee until the test results come back.

If the tests show the ghee is bad, the shops could get in trouble.
