8th Pay Commission consultation drive: 5 latest updates for employees
The government wants to decide how much money to pay the people who work for it, like postal workers, railway workers and retired government employees.
To help with this decision, a special group called the 8th Pay Commission was created.
It is led by a judge named Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.
The group is traveling around the country to talk to workers and pensioners and listen to their ideas.
It plans to visit places like Jaipur, Chennai, Puducherry and Chandigarh.
People can send their suggestions before certain dates.
The group has not decided on any new salaries or pensions yet.
When it finishes listening, it will write a report with its recommendations and give it to the central government.
This kind of commission is formed about once every ten years.
The 8th Pay Commission, chaired by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, was constituted on 3 November 2025 with an 18-month mandate.
The Commission is in its consultative phase, holding key meetings with employee unions and pensioner groups across states and union territories.
On 11 August, the Commission issued a partial modification to its guidelines for engaging consultants.
Consultations are scheduled in Jaipur (31 August-1 September 2026), Chennai (7-8 September), Puducherry (9 September) and Chandigarh (16-18 September).
No final fitment factor, minimum salary, pension revision or revised pay structure has been announced yet; recommendations will be submitted to the central government.
