8th Pay Commission recommendations likely by May 2027 deadline
The Indian government has set up a special group called the 8th Central Pay Commission.
Its job is to decide how much money government workers and retired workers should be paid.
Many workers and pensioners are sharing their ideas with the group.
The group is listening to people in many cities, like Delhi, Chennai, and Mumbai.
Lots of people will be affected — more than one crore!
That includes about 50 lakh government employees and 65 lakh retired people.
The group also looks at things like house rent money and cost-of-living payments.
The group has 18 months to finish its work.
It started in November 2025, so its last chance to finish is May 2027.
The 8th Central Pay Commission is in its consultation stage, meeting employee and pensioner associations, unions and stakeholders across India.
The panel's decisions are expected to benefit over 1 crore people, including around 50 lakh central government employees and nearly 65 lakh pensioners.
The commission has 18 months from its constitution on 3 November 2025, making May 2027 the absolute deadline for its report.
Consultation meetings are scheduled in August and September in Delhi, Chennai, Puducherry, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Mumbai.
The commission is examining pay structure, allowances including Dearness Allowance, Dearness Relief and HRA, and other benefits, and is chaired by former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.
