The 8th Pay Commission is studying how central government employees’ pay may change.

One important number is called the fitment factor.

It is multiplied by current basic pay to show an illustrative new basic pay.

The final factor has not been decided.

For example, a Level 5 employee currently has a basic pay of ₹29,200.

Using a factor of 2.57 would give an illustrative basic pay of ₹75,044.

Employee groups want an even higher factor, such as 3.833 or 4.0.

These numbers are only examples, because allowances, the pay matrix, and other salary parts may also change.

The Commission is expected to give its report to the government by May or June 2027.
