Meritorious students feted with cash awards on Independence Day
A government college in India held a big celebration for Independence Day, the day the country became free.
A special guest raised the Indian flag, just like people do across the country on this special day.
He also laid flowers in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, a great Indian leader.
The guest talked about programs from the state government that help students, like a mid-day meal scheme and a scheme that supports education.
Hardworking students at the celebration received money prizes to say 'well done.'
The prize money, about 37,000 rupees, came from kind people who wanted to support the students.
Seven students won special prizes for being excellent at mathematics, and twenty more top students each received 1,000 rupees.
The principal shared that 227 students study at the college.
Everyone celebrated both their country and the students' success.
The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at Government Junior College in Akunuru of Vuyyuru mandal on Saturday.
Chief guest and College Development Committee chairman Kakani Srinivasa Rao hoisted the National Flag, paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and highlighted the State government's welfare initiatives such as Talliki Vandanam and the Dokka Seethamma Mid-Day Meal scheme.
Meritorious students were honoured with cash awards supported by Rs.37,000 in donor contributions, including Rs.17,000 from the families of late Veerapaneni Dasaradha Ramaiah and late Sujatha for Mathematics excellence.
Seven students received special Mathematics awards while 20 top-performing students were given Rs.1,000 each.
Principal VSB Ramalaxmi reported the college has 227 Intermediate students, including 135 first-year and 92 second-year students, and reaffirmed the faculty's commitment to quality education.
