India Lists Su-30MKI Parts for Indigenous Defence Production
India has made a new list of defence parts that it wants to produce inside the country.
The list contains 405 important items.
These items are expected to create business worth about Rs.
3,070 crore.
After certain dates, importing these items will no longer be allowed.
The list includes parts used in Su-30MKI aircraft, tanks, warships, missiles and electronic systems.
The Defence Ministry says government defence companies and the Indian Coast Guard will help develop them.
Private companies, especially small and medium-sized businesses, may also take part.
India says it has already made more than 15,700 defence items domestically.
The Ministry of Defence notified the sixth Positive Indigenisation List covering 405 strategically important defence items.
The items have an estimated business potential of Rs. 3,070 crore and will be banned from import after specified dates.
The list includes 16 Indian Coast Guard items and 389 items linked to defence public sector undertakings.
Covered equipment includes Su-30MKI and AL-31FP engine parts, armoured platforms, warships, missiles, radars and sonars.
More than 15,700 defence items have reportedly been indigenised, replacing imports worth about Rs. 9,000 crore over five years.
