India has created a new list of defence items that should be made inside the country.

The list contains 405 items.

These items include parts, materials and smaller systems used in military equipment.

They are meant for helicopters, fighter aircraft, tanks, ships, missiles and defence electronics.

Sixteen items come from the Indian Coast Guard.

The other 389 items come from Defence Public Sector Undertakings.

The government estimates that making these items could create business worth Rs 3,070 crore.

It says the plan will help Indian companies grow and reduce the need to buy these items from other countries.
