VIT Chennai Convocation Awards Degrees to 4,518 Students
A big school in Chennai called VIT held a graduation ceremony.
This was the 14th time the school has held one.
More than four and a half thousand students got their diplomas.
Some students finished their first degree, some finished higher degrees, and some earned doctorates.
A very important science person named Dr T. Ramasami gave a speech.
He said young people help build the future for their families and for everyone.
The leader of the school, Dr G. Viswanathan, said not many people in India finish college.
He said only about 13 out of every 100 people in India have a college degree, and he compared this with countries like Canada, South Korea and Japan.
A diplomat from Sri Lanka also spoke about how India and Sri Lanka are close friends.
Another guest told the graduates to work hard, solve problems and find happiness.
VIT Chennai held its 14th annual convocation on Sunday, awarding degrees to 4,518 undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students.
Chief guest Dr T. Ramasami, former secretary of the Union department of science and technology, said youth shape the future of their families, the country and humanity.
Founder and Chancellor Dr G. Viswanathan, who presided, said only about 13 per cent of India's population has attained graduate-level education, compared with Canada, South Korea and Japan.
Sri Lanka's Deputy High Commissioner for South India, Dr Ganesanathan Geathiswaran, highlighted close historical and cultural ties between India and Sri Lanka, especially Tamil Nadu.
Guest of honour Mohit Jain urged graduates to pursue happiness while working hard and solving challenges.
