VIT Chennai hosts 14th annual convocation, honours 4,518 graduates
A big university in Chennai called VIT had a special celebration called a convocation.
At this celebration, students who finished their studies received their diplomas.
More than 4,500 students got their degrees.
A famous scientist named Dr T Ramasami came to give a speech.
He told the students that young people can help build their families, their country, and the world.
He said Tamil Nadu is one of the best places in India for research and science.
He also said that only about 13 out of every 100 people in India have finished college.
The founder of the university, Dr G Viswanathan, said the graduates are the future of the nation.
Another speaker told them to work hard but also to be happy.
It was a proud day for all the new graduates.
VIT Chennai held its 14th annual convocation on Sunday with Dr T Ramasami, former Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, as chief guest.
Dr G Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor of VIT, presided over the ceremony and congratulated 4,518 UG, PG, and PhD graduates.
Dr Ramasami said Tamil Nadu has led India in research and development since 2000, publishing about 61 per cent of the country's peer-reviewed research papers.
He noted that only around 13 per cent of India's population has attained graduate-level education.
Mohit Jain of Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. urged graduates to work hard but not be obsessed with success, and to pursue happiness.
