Tahsildars Can Again Issue Residence Certificates Across the State
The government has decided that tahsildars can issue residence certificates again.
A residence certificate proves where a person lives.
People may need it for jobs, education and checking electoral rolls.
They can apply to their local tahsildar with documents that show their address.
If they do not have documents, the tahsildar can ask people locally and verify their residence.
This change cancels an order from 2015 that stopped tahsildars from issuing these certificates.
The government also wants the certificates to be digital and easy for computers to read.
These certificates may help some tribal families enroll or update their Aadhaar details.
The state government has restored tahsildars’ authority to issue residence certificates with immediate effect.
Revenue department special chief secretary G Sai Prasad issued GO Ms No 592 on Wednesday.
The certificates may be needed for employment, education and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Applicants can submit supporting documents, or a tahsildar may verify residence through a local enquiry.
The order also seeks digitally signed, machine-readable and QR code-enabled certificates for Aadhaar enrolment and updates, especially for PVTG households.
