Amazon Targets a Much Bigger Quick-Commerce Role Across India
Amazon wants to deliver more products to Indian customers very quickly.
It entered quick commerce after companies such as Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart had already become important players.
Amazon says its advantage is the large number of products it already stores and its delivery network.
It currently has about 4.5 million items in its warehouses.
The company is opening small nearby stores and larger urban fulfilment centres.
Some products could arrive in minutes, while others may take 25 to 30 minutes.
Amazon plans to expand to 300 cities and more than 3,000 stores.
It believes quick commerce will become much bigger and is investing for a long-term business.
Amazon India VP Samir Kumar said quick commerce and e-commerce will become a much larger part of India’s market.
Amazon is expanding from an initial 10,000–15,000 products toward a broader assortment drawn from 4.5 million warehouse items.
The company is setting up dark stores and urban fulfilment centres to offer deliveries ranging from minutes to about 30 minutes.
Amazon plans to expand toward 300 cities and more than 3,000 stores, including Tier-II, Tier-III and Tier-IV cities.
Kumar said Amazon views quick commerce as a differentiated, valuable and potentially large business worth building for the long term.
