Tirupati: Gears Up for Vinayaka Chavithi Festivities From Today · deccanchronicle.com

Tirupati is getting ready for the Vinayaka Chavithi festival.

Many groups will place Ganesha idols in different parts of the city.

About 700 groups registered, while dozens more may celebrate without registering.

The idols will be placed in water on certain festival days.

Because Vinayaka Sagar has no water, a nearby tank will be filled for the immersions.

Shops and roads became very busy as people bought flowers, fruits, umbrellas and पूजा items.

Clay idols were popular, although people said they cost more than last year.

About 1,000 students also made their own clay idols to help protect the environment.
