Gadchiroli Police, CRPF Unearth Maoist Arms Cache On Maharashtra Border
Some police officers and soldiers in India found a hidden pile of weapons in a forest.
Bad people called Maoists had buried guns and bombs underground.
The secret hiding spot was in the Kumnar forest, which is near the border of two Indian states, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
The police got a secret tip that the weapons were there.
A special team that includes bomb experts went to dig them up.
They found many rifles, a bomb, batteries, and some books.
The weapons may have been used to hurt police or cause trouble during events and elections.
Now that the hidden weapons are found, the police say the area is safer.
The police also say the Maoist problem in this area is almost gone.
Gadchiroli Police and the CRPF recovered a buried cache of arms, ammunition and explosives in the Kumnar forest area along the Maharashtra–Chhattisgarh border.
The joint operation was launched on confidential intelligence under the guidance of Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police M. Ramesh.
The search team comprised four police contingents, a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and a CRPF unit.
Recovered items include one SLR rifle, one .303 rifle, seven 12-bore rifles, three single-shot rifles, two BGL launchers, three SLR magazines, one IED, two batteries, and Maoist literature.
Police said the material was allegedly used for ambushes and sabotage during events such as 'Naxal Week' and regional elections, and that the Maoist movement in Gadchiroli is nearing elimination.
