Gujarat Textile Industry Has Golden Opportunity to Compete Globally: Sanghavi
Gujarat is a place in India where lots of clothes and fabrics are made.
A very important leader in Gujarat, Harsh Sanghavi, talked about the textile business at a big meeting in Surat.
He said that because India signed special agreements with other countries, Gujarat's cloth businesses have a great chance to sell their products around the world.
These special agreements are called free trade agreements.
He said this wonderful opportunity came with the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sanghavi also said the Gujarat government made a new rule, called a textile policy, to help these businesses.
Because of this policy, new cloth and clothing factories have opened in the Dang and Surat areas.
These factories give jobs to tribal people who live there.
The government is also trying to give more jobs to women in the textile industry.
India now has nine of these free trade agreements with 38 countries, which could mean more chances for Gujarat's businesses.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said textile businesses in South Gujarat, Surat and Ahmedabad have a golden opportunity to compete in global markets using free trade agreements (FTAs).
He spoke after participating in the annual general meeting of the Federation of Surat Trade & Textile Associations (FOSTTA) in Surat.
Sanghavi credited FTAs signed with several countries under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating the opportunity.
He said the state government under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has formulated a textile policy, with many units opening in the Dang and Surat belt and generating employment for tribal people.
India has expanded its FTA network to nine FTAs spanning 38 countries, according to an official release in March.
