Karnataka launches Tathyakosh.in to centralise India's public data
The government of Karnataka has built a special online library called Tathyakosh.in.
It is like a giant search engine for information, or data, that the public can use.
India has lots of data spread out across many different websites and organizations.
Sometimes it is very hard to find the right piece of information.
Tathyakosh gathers links to more than one and a half million public datasets from 458 different sources.
It does not keep the data itself; it only points people to where the data lives.
So researchers, students, startups and government workers can find what they need faster.
The name comes from Sanskrit words meaning 'truth' and 'storehouse'.
The people who made it hope it will help India build smarter technology, including artificial intelligence.
Karnataka's ACSEL Technology Forum launched Tathyakosh.in, a digital public good to make India's fragmented public data ecosystem more accessible.
IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge unveiled the platform, which is now live at Tathyakosh.in.
The platform brings together more than 1.5 million public datasets from 458 data sources on a single searchable platform.
Tathyakosh does not store datasets itself but directs users to original sources, preserving data ownership and provenance.
The platform is aimed at researchers, startups, developers and policymakers, supporting areas such as healthcare, agriculture, climate, legal research and financial inclusion.
