Brain And Gut Signals May Predict Antidepressant Response Early
Researchers studied whether signals from the brain and stomach could show if an antidepressant is working.
They used EEG to measure brain activity and EGG to measure stomach activity.

The measurements were taken when treatment started and again about a week later.
The researchers found that these signals could help identify people who might not respond to the medicine.
This could give doctors useful information sooner than the usual four to six weeks.
The model was fairly accurate when tested on a separate group of patients.

Signals recorded during the first 7-10 days of treatment helped identify patients unlikely to respond to an antidepressant.
The study included 206 participants, including 144 treatment-naive patients with depression.
During development, the predictive model showed 84% sensitivity and 78% specificity for identifying non-responders.
On an independent patient group, the model reached 77.3% overall accuracy, but researchers said larger and more diverse studies are needed.
