Karnataka teams up with Anthropic to boost AI in governance

Karnataka, a state in India, is teaming up with a company called Anthropic to bring smart computer programs—called artificial intelligence, or AI—into the state.

The state's leader, D K Shivakumar, met with people from Anthropic to plan a long-term partnership.

These programs, like the one named Claude, can help the government serve people in better and easier ways.

Anthropic's Claude AI is now built for India, which means it can work with data stored inside the country.

Karnataka also wants to teach students, workers, and government employees how to use AI.

The state plans to start an AI University and give out special AI certificates, including Claude certification, under a skill-building effort called NIPUNA.

The government promises that its information will be stored on local servers, which means it stays inside the state.

Special teams made up of officials and AI experts will study how AI can help each government department, including using AI to stop fraud and keep exam papers safe.

The goal is to make Karnataka one of India's biggest centers for AI learning and new ideas, all while keeping people's information safe.
