Bandra Platform 8 Advances as Garib Nagar Rehabilitation Nears Completion
Western Railway plans to add a new platform at Bandra station.
It will be called Platform 8 and will be on the station’s eastern side.
The platform is part of a project to build a sixth railway line between Mumbai Central and Borivali.
Before construction can begin at the site, residents affected by the project need to be relocated.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has relocated 94 of about 100 eligible occupants from Garib Nagar.
The remaining cases are still being handled.
After relocation is finished, structures at the site will be removed.
Western Railway aims to finish two sections of the sixth line by 2029.
Western Railway plans to build Platform 8 on the eastern side of Bandra station, alongside Platform 7.
Of about 100 eligible project-affected occupants identified in Garib Nagar, 94 have been rehabilitated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
The remaining rehabilitation cases are being processed; structures at the site will be removed once relocation is complete.
The new platform is planned as part of the Mumbai Central–Borivali sixth railway line project and will connect to the sixth line.
Western Railway targets completion of the Mumbai Central–Dadar section by March 2029 and the Dadar–Khar Road section by December 2029.
