70-Year-Old Waste Collector Turns Tiranga Yatra Into Swachhata Mission
In the city of Indore, many people walked together in a big parade called the Tiranga Yatra.
They carried the Indian flag and sang patriotic songs.
An old man named Bhola Babulal Shinde walked behind them.
He pushes a small cart and collects waste for a living.
During the parade, he picked up empty plastic bottles that people dropped on the road.
He put the bottles in his cart so the streets stayed clean.
When people asked why, he said the country should be clean and he was just doing his part.
He later sells the bottles to buy food.
His small act reminded everyone that caring for your country can mean caring for your surroundings.
Bhola Babulal Shinde, a 70-plus-year-old waste collector from Indore, followed the Tiranga Yatra with a small handcart.
He collected empty plastic bottles discarded along the route from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya campus to Rajiv Gandhi Square.
Shinde earns his livelihood by collecting and selling waste but chose to use his time to help keep the route clean.
He said the country should be clean and that he was merely doing his part.
The collected bottles, he said, would eventually be sold to buy food.
