Kukshi Seeks Drought Status After 205 Mm Rainfall Deficit
A farmers’ group in Kukshi says the area has not received enough rain.
It asked the Madhya Pradesh government to declare four tehsils drought-affected.
The areas named are Kukshi, Dahi, Gandhwani and Manawar.
The group says crops such as soybean, chilli and cotton have suffered.
Cotton and chilli farmers are also dealing with more crop diseases.
Many wells, rivers, streams and ponds are reportedly nearly dry.
This could make it harder to get water for people, farms and animals.
The group wants a survey so affected farmers can receive government help.
It also requested drought status for Alirajpur district.
Janhit Sangharsh Samiti, Kukshi, submitted a memorandum seeking drought declarations for four tehsils.
The requested tehsils are Kukshi, Dahi, Gandhwani and Manawar in Madhya Pradesh.
The committee said deficient rainfall damaged kharif crops, including soybean, chilli and cotton.
It reported that wells, rivers, streams and ponds were largely dry, raising drinking-water and irrigation concerns.
Kukshi recorded about 205 mm less rainfall than the previous year by the end of August, according to the committee.
