Dedicated Freight Corridor launches rapid parcel train service connecting NCR with Gujarat · theprint.in

India has launched a brand-new train service that carries parcels and goods really fast.

The train is called the Joint Parcel Product–Rapid Cargo Service.

It runs between New Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and New Ancheli in Gujarat.

That journey is about 1,200 kilometers long and takes around 23 hours.

Before this train, parcels could only be carried up to the city of Ahmedabad.

Now packages can also reach Surat and Mumbai.

Businesses can book space on the train online, up to 180 days before they need it.

The service combines trucks and trains so packages can travel from door to door.

It is especially useful for online shopping companies and makers of everyday goods.

Moving parcels by train instead of truck is better for the environment because trucks create a lot of air pollution.

Official of Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited

“Road freight is a major contributor to India’s petroleum consumption and oil‑import dependence. Although trucks account for only around 3 per cent of the country’s vehicle fleet, they contribute disproportionately to transport emissions, accounting for nearly 34 per cent of transport‑related CO2 emissions and 53 per cent of particulate matter emissions.”
