Pune FDA Seizes Rs76.62 Lakh in Festive Food Crackdown
The Food and Drug Administration checked food businesses during the festive season.
Officials were concerned that some food might be adulterated, wrongly labelled or unsafe.
They seized products worth Rs56.36 lakh from 12 businesses.
They also seized banned gutkha, pan masala and scented tobacco worth Rs20.26 lakh.
The inspections took place in five districts around Pune.
Some sweets and food products were found decomposed and were destroyed.
Licences of several sweet shops, hotels, restaurants and bakeries were suspended.
Police cases were filed and 15 people were arrested in the tobacco-related action.
The FDA said checks will continue and asked people to report unsafe food.
The FDA seized food products worth Rs56.36 lakh from 12 establishments between September 10 and 15, 2026.
A separate drive seized banned gutkha, pan masala and scented tobacco worth Rs20.26 lakh from 14 establishments.
The action covered Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur districts.
Six sweet-shop licences and eight hotel, restaurant and bakery licences were suspended.
The tobacco-product drive resulted in nine sealed establishments, three vehicles seized, 14 FIRs and 15 arrests.
