Lodhi Colony’s Bharat Vann Brings Dense Miyawaki Forest
Lodhi Colony in Delhi is getting a new small urban forest called Bharat Vann.
The forest will be made by planting more than 10,000 plants close together.
This planting style is called the Miyawaki method.
It uses native plants that can grow in the local climate.
The project will cover about 3,000 square metres.
People will be able to walk, practice yoga and meditate there.
Nirmala Sitharaman planted the first sapling when the project was inaugurated on September 17.
The forest is being funded by the Indian Infrastructure Finance Company and will be maintained for three years.
Experts say some claims about how quickly Miyawaki forests grow and become self-sustaining have limited research support.
The New Delhi Municipal Council is developing a one-acre Miyawaki forest in Lodhi Colony.
Named Bharat Vann, the project will include more than 10,000 native and climate-adapted saplings.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the project on September 17 by planting its first sapling.
The forest will cover about 3,000 square metres and use 76 plant species suited to Delhi’s conditions.
Plans include walking tracks, yoga, pranayama and open-air meditation spaces, with IIFCL funding maintenance for three years.
