World Breastfeeding Week campaigns held across Visakhapatnam hospitals
Awareness sessions mark ‘World Breastfeeding Week’ · thehansindia.com

Every year, the world celebrates World Breastfeeding Week to talk about why breastfeeding matters for babies and mothers.

In Visakhapatnam, a hospital called KIMS Cuddles held a whole week of activities to teach people about it.

They organised a walkathon at Visakhapatnam Beach where doctors, nurses and parents walked together to spread the message.

Another institute called GIMSR held a special class for 25 mothers.

The mothers learned that babies should receive colostrum, their first special milk, within one hour of being born.

They also learned that babies should drink only breast milk for the first six months.

Doctors taught helpful tips, like feeding the baby 10 to 12 times a day, including at night.

They showed mothers a special way to hold the baby called the cross-cradle hold.

The doctors said breastfeeding is not only the mother's job and that families should help.

When everyone helps, mothers can breastfeed with confidence and the babies stay healthy.
