Western Railway Reports High Food and Water Safety Compliance
Western Railway Intensifies Food Safety And Water Quality Checks; 98 Per Cent Food And 99.87 Pc Water Samples Pass · freepressjournal.in

Western Railway checked food and drinking water at stations, hospitals and railway campuses.

It tested almost 1,000 food samples and most of them passed safety checks.

It also tested thousands of water samples, and nearly all were found safe.

The checks included taps, water coolers, storage tanks and railway colony pipelines.

Some stations and campuses received special Eat Right certifications.

These certifications require checks on food handling, cleanliness, pest control and staff hygiene.

Railway officials said vendors that fail checks can be penalized and inspected again.

The goal is to keep passengers and railway workers healthier and safer.

Food Safety and Standards Act tests
356 of 357 samples passed, for a 99.72% compliance rate.
Quality Control Compliance tests
626 of 642 samples passed, for a 97.5% success rate.
Eat Right certifications
64 certifications were awarded to 51 railway stations and 13 campuses.
Bacteriological water tests
About 3,879 tests recorded a 99.87% overall fitness rate.
Residual chlorine tests
About 33,104 tests were conducted at water dispensing points.
Mumbai suburban water checks
329 of 333 bacteriological tests and 2,192 of 2,193 residual chlorine tests were satisfactory.
Mumbai non-suburban water checks
All 381 bacteriological samples passed, while 3,039 of 3,090 residual chlorine tests were satisfactory.
