IRCTC seizes unapproved water and food in nationwide train inspections

Trains in India carry many passengers, and people on trains buy food and water to eat and drink.

Sometimes, sellers bring food and drinks that have not been checked or approved, which might not be safe.

A company called IRCTC, which looks after food on Indian trains, decided to check trains and stations.

They sent special teams called Quick Response Teams to look for unapproved items.

The teams found thousands of water bottles that were not approved, along with ice cream, flavoured milk and buttermilk.

They took these items away so passengers would not buy them.

The checks happened in many places across India, including Lucknow, Chandigarh, Ambala, Howrah and Guwahati.

IRCTC told food sellers to follow the rules and only sell approved products.

Sellers who break the rules can be punished.

IRCTC says it will keep checking to make sure passengers get safe and clean food.
