Western Railway Steps Up Food Safety Checks With 1,523 Inspections
The people who run trains in Mumbai want to make sure the food sold at train stations is safe to eat.
They sent inspectors to check the places where food is made and sold.
The inspectors looked at how clean the food stalls were, checked the water, and tested the oil used for frying snacks.
They tested 855 food samples and collected 142 water samples.
They also used special meters to check if cooking oil was too old to use.
Old oil can make food taste bad and be unhealthy.
The railway workers also cleaned up 1,587 kg of garbage from food areas.
They are doing even more checks between August 15 and 31.
This way, passengers can feel good about the food and water they get while traveling.
Western Railway conducted 1,523 regular and surprise inspections at catering stalls till July, focusing on food hygiene, water quality, cooking oil and catering norms.
Officials tested 855 food samples and collected 142 water samples, including packaged drinking water, for quality checks.
The railway deployed 48 Total Polar Material (TPM) meters to monitor whether repeatedly used frying oil remains within permissible limits.
