TN Assembly Sees Vijay-Udhaya Face-Off Over Cauvery Talks

Two states in India, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, are having a big argument about a river called the Cauvery.

Karnataka wants to build a big dam called the Mekedatu Dam to store water.

Tamil Nadu is worried that the dam will take away water that its farmers and people need.

The leader of the opposition in Tamil Nadu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, said all the political parties in the state should sit together and talk about what to do.

He said the parties in Karnataka are united, so Tamil Nadu should be united too.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay, said there is no need for such a meeting.

He said the government already wrote a letter about its stand to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

Vijay said the government will not give up Tamil Nadu's rights to the river water and will fight the issue through the courts.

Some other leaders also argued about what past governments did about the dam.

In the end, both sides kept disagreeing about the best way to protect Tamil Nadu's water.
