Andhra Pradesh is preparing to hold elections for 100 urban local bodies.

These bodies include municipal corporations, municipalities and nagar panchayats.

The councils in 87 of them have already completed their terms.

The terms of 13 more councils will end in November.

Elections in 23 other bodies could not previously be held because of court cases and related matters.

The government has asked its departments to work with the State Election Commission.

They must prepare voter lists, ward details and reservation notices before voting.

One-third of the seats will be reserved for Backward Classes under existing state laws.

Having elected local bodies is also important for democratic administration and receiving Finance Commission grants.
