Maharashtra FDA Suspends 165 Licences After Inspecting 3,137 Food Outlets
In the Indian state of Maharashtra, the government has a special office that checks whether the food people eat is safe.
It is called the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA.
Between May and July 2026, inspectors visited 3,137 places that make or sell food, like restaurants and hotels.
Most of these places, about three out of every four, were doing a good job.
Some places were told to fix small problems.
A few places, 165 of them, were so unsafe that they were not allowed to sell food anymore.
The inspectors also took away a huge amount of bad food and stopped shops from selling banned items.
They even arrested some people who broke the rules.
Big places like the Cricket Club of India lost their food licences too.
The person in charge of the FDA said they will keep being very strict to protect people's health.
Between May 25 and July 31, 2026, the Maharashtra FDA inspected 3,137 food establishments across the state.
Of those inspected, 2,373 (75.6%) were fully compliant and 764 (24.4%) received improvement notices.
The FDA suspended 165 licences (5.3%) for serious violations and seized 28,66,096 kg of food products worth Rs 55.72 crore.
The crackdown led to 599 FIRs, 701 arrests, the sealing of 407 establishments, and the seizure of 78 vehicles valued at ₹6.60 crore.
Licences were suspended for the Cricket Club of India, Wellington Sports Club, and Rustic Ideas, a central kitchen serving over 3,000 schoolchildren.
