Odisha Governor urges weekly handloom wear to support weaving families

In Odisha, a state in India, the governor asked everyone to wear hand-woven clothes called handloom at least once a week.

He said this simple habit could become a powerful movement to help the many families who make these clothes.

The governor explained that buying handloom is not just buying cloth—it supports a family, gives jobs to people in villages, and helps women.

He reminded people that Odisha's weaving tradition goes back to the ancient maritime heritage of Kalinga.

The state's handlooms, such as Sambalpuri Bandha and Odisha Ikat, are famous around the world for their beautiful designs.

On this special day, the state signed agreements with companies including Amazon to bring online selling benefits to 1.30 lakh weavers.

This means weavers who are chosen can join Amazon Karigar and sell their products on the internet.

The governor also urged officials, teachers and young people to choose Odisha handloom products in their daily lives.
