Iran: Oman Hormuz Deal Close, Reopening Needs US Conditions
The United States and Iran are fighting a war, and one of the places they are arguing about is the Strait of Hormuz.
That is a narrow strip of ocean where many big ships carry oil to other countries.
Because of the fighting, the strait has been mostly closed since late February.
That makes it hard for oil to move around the world.
Iran says it is very close to making a deal with the country of Oman to create a new shipping route.
But Iran says that deal alone will not open the strait.
It says the United States must also accept its conditions and give it something in return.
Meanwhile, Iran attacked a ship owned by a company from the United Arab Emirates with a missile, but nobody was hurt.
The United States is worried it might run out of weapons, so it asked its defence companies to build important systems faster.
Iran said it was "very close" to a deal with Oman on a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, but the agreement would not be enough to reopen the waterway.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said reopening the strait depends on other conditions, including compensation from Washington to Tehran.
The UAE said Iran attacked a carrier affiliated with its state oil company with a missile; no injuries were reported, and Oman condemned repeated attacks on vessels.
The Pentagon asked US defence companies to accelerate production of key weapons systems, with Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg calling years-long development cycles "not acceptable."
The IRGC said the strait will only reopen if the US fully accepts Iran's conditions and ends interference in regional negotiations.
