India’s Semiconductor Mission Drives Chip Design and Manufacturing Growth

India is trying to build a stronger chip industry at home.

Officials say at least 200 chip design companies have emerged under a government semiconductor programme.

More than 105 startups received special tools to help them design chips.

Twenty of those startups obtained venture capital funding.

India has also trained about 70,000 chip design engineers.

Five semiconductor factories have started making products commercially.

India is working with places such as Singapore, Europe and South Korea to improve manufacturing and supply chains.

The goal is to create more technology in India and rely less on imported chip designs.
