Kadapa Collector assures farmers amid El Niño rainfall deficit
This year, less rain than usual fell in a place called Kadapa because of a weather pattern called El Niño.
El Niño can change how much rain different parts of the world get.
The district leader, called a Collector, met with other leaders to talk about how to help farmers.
They checked how much water was left in the reservoirs and how much rain had fallen.
They found that the reservoirs were only about half full.
Farmers have already planted crops on a large area of land.
The leaders made a plan to help farmers take care of their water and crops.
They also want to protect farm animals and make sure there is enough fodder for them to eat.
The Collector said farmers will not face difficulties if everyone works together and has a good plan.
District Collector Dr Sridhar Cherukuri said proactive planning, efficient water management and inter-departmental coordination are ensuring farmers face no difficulties despite reduced rainfall from El Niño.
A review meeting on drought preparedness was held on Thursday at the Kadapa Collectorate with MLAs, the Joint Collector, the Rajampet Sub-Collector and district officials.
June-July rainfall in the district showed a 47.3% deficit, while reservoirs hold 39.88 TMC against a total capacity of 82.26 TMC.
Kharif sowing has covered 70,539 hectares so far, with reservoirs at nearly 50% capacity supporting irrigation and drinking water needs.
The action plan covers crop and water management, groundwater infrastructure, farmer support and livestock protection, with directions to coordinate on micro-irrigation, crop insurance, fodder and health measures.
