Tamil Nadu Announces Three Free LPG Cylinders Annually for Families
The Tamil Nadu government plans to help families pay for cooking gas.
Under a scheme called Annapoorani Super Six, eligible families will receive money for three LPG cylinders each year.
The programme is expected to begin around Pongal in January.
Families with yearly incomes up to Rs 2.5 lakh can apply.
Poor households, small farmers, families of people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups are expected to benefit.
Families will first buy the cylinders through the usual distribution system.
The government will then send the money directly to their bank accounts.
The plan is meant to make cooking fuel more affordable and reduce reliance on smoky fuels such as firewood.
