Workers have started a new part of the Gurugram Metro project.

They lifted the first large concrete U-shaped beam, called a U-girder.

The beam weighed 160 tonnes.

It was lifted near Cyber Park in Gurugram around midnight.

Two powerful hydraulic cranes helped place it safely.

Minister Rao Narbir Singh attended the ceremony and the lifting.

The government says the metro will help people travel between important parts of the city.

More construction work is expected to continue according to the project plan.
