India Parliament Monsoon Session Ends Amid Govt-Opposition Standoff

The leaders who make laws in India meet in a big building called Parliament.

A few times a year, they have a special meeting time called a session.

This time, the meeting time was called the Monsoon Session.

But instead of working, the two big groups kept arguing.

One group, called the Opposition, was upset because students were hurt during a protest in July.

The students were marching because they were unhappy about a big exam called NEET.

The Opposition wanted the Home Minister, the person in charge of police, to say sorry or explain in Parliament.

The government, led by the ruling party, did not give that answer.

Because both sides kept arguing, they could not talk about other important things, like the FCRA law or the student protests.

The last day of the session ended with no work getting done.

That is why people say the session was washed out.
